The shallow water model version of the GME model is presented. GME is the current operational global model of the german meteorological service (Deutscher Wetterdienst).
The GME shallow water model was implemented by D. Majewski (Deutscher Wetterdienst, 1996) ( [6,7,8]). It is based on a shallow water model on the icosahedral-hexagonal grid developed by John Baumgardner (Los Alamos National Laboratory at that time) [4].
A NetCDF-file [9] output has been implemented by P. Rípodas (Deutscher Wetterdienst, 2004-2005).
The shallow water model version of GME was implemented to test the dynamic core of GME [6] using test cases 5 and 6 of Williamson et al.[11].
In the frame of the ICON project [1,2,3], the GME Shallow Water runs are compared with the ICON Shallow Water prototype runs as a test of the ICON development.
